RR Donnelly (RRD) is a marketing, packaging, print, and supply chain organization that was supporting the physical production of photobooks and other photo products created through Apple’s native app in Photos.
When Apple chose to stop supporting the native app, RR Donnelly was given the opportunity to create a new one.
Apple chose to sunset their native photo product application within Photos. This meant that the manufacturing revenue from photo products on Apple’s application would be lost.
Design and deliver a new photo product application, in partnership with Apple, to continue to enable customers to create beautiful photo products and continue RRD’s existing and future revenue streams.
To do so, we would need to work collaboratively with the printing operations group, with Apple to handle OS updates yet to be revealed at WWDC, legal and compliance teams to enable sales both domestic and internationally, develop our own facial recognition and quality recommendations, and the complexities of translating digital images to a physical product (RGB to CMYK, bleed, trim, etc.).
Working directly with RR Donnelly's print operations center, we ensured a seamless transition from the legacy Apple MacOS app to a new, fully native RR Donnelly app named Motif.
